Video Release: “El Maleh Rachamim” Performed by Principal Viola of Deutsche Oper Berlin Andrei Gridchuk and Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra

A video of the composition “El Maleh Rachamim” (“Merciful God”) performed by the principal viola of Deutsche Oper Berlin, Andrei Gridchuk, and the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra led by Mikhail Kirchhoff, a recipient of the Priznanie Award, is now available on Baruch Berliner’s YouTube channel.

The composition was written by Baruch Berliner, Nachum Slutzker, and Sergei Krutsenko (RIP) for the film The Address on the Wall, which recounts the World War II tragedy of Babi Yar. “El Maleh Rachamim” was arranged for symphony orchestra by the talented Moscow composer Andrey Pospelov.

“El Maleh Rachamim” is also part of a Holocaust remembrance project, where performers and orchestras record their own versions of the composition to pay tribute and honor the memory of those who perished.

You can learn more about the Holocaust memorial project—and even participate by performing your own version of the composition—at www.elmalehrachamim.com, a website created specifically for this initiative. The piece has been arranged as a vocal work, for violin, cello, piano, guitar, and other instruments, as well as for string and symphony orchestras.
